NEWMARKET CUP KINGS AGAIN

Newmarket Celtic 7
Kildysart Celtic    2

Newmarket Celtic came out on top in an entertaining Youths Summer Cup final with victory over Kildysart Celtic at Cassidy Park on Monday. In truth the scoreline did not do justice to the overall match but there was no doubt that Newmarket were worthy inaugural winners of this new competition in the Clare District Soccer League. Newmarket went in front on 22 minutes when Eoin Hayes setup Gary Leahy in the Kildysart box to score with a nice finish to the left corner. Kildysart got back in the game on 30 minutes when Ethan McCarthy had a brilliant finish from a free kick from 20 yards. Newmarket went back in front on 38 minutes after a good run and cross from Hayes was finished to the net by Leahy. Hayes got in on the scoring himself on 42 minutes when he chipped the ball over the advancing Keith Dunphy in the Kildysart goal to make it 3-1 at the break to Newmarket. In the 48th minute Leahy completed his hat-trick when he got on the end of another cross from Hayes to finish well from 5 yards. Kildysart kept battling and went close from a header from Darren O'Neill on 55 minutes. On 60 minutes the game was over as a contest when Hayes scored his second with another good finish from inside the box. To compound Kildysarts misery O'Neill was shown a red card for disputing an offside decision. Everyone expected the floodgates to open at this stage but to Kildysart's credit the had the better of the next 20 minutes and pulled a goal back with another brilliant free kick from outside the box by McCarthy on 65 minutes. They had further efforts from McCarthy again and Patrick Kelly which could easily have reduced the deficit even further. In the last 10 minutes it was all about Eoin Hayes. He completed his hat-trick on 82 minutes with another good finish from inside the box and rounded off a man of the match performance with a well struck header on 85 minutes to complete the scoring. After the match the Clare League Chairman Jim Madden presented the Man of the Match award to Hayes and the Youths Summer Cup to Newmarket captain Colm Tracey.
