Turnpike Rovers advanced to the semi-final of the Youths Summer Cup and a meeting with Newmarket Celtic after a deserved victory over Inagh Rovers at Lees Road on Monday night. In an entertaining open game throughout both sides created many scoring chances. Turnpike went in front in the first half when Thomas Cronin scored from inside the box after getting on the end of a deflected shot. Eddie McCarthy almost made it two before half time with a powerful shot from outside the box that Noel Sexton in the Inagh goal did well to keep out. Inagh started the second half brightly and were pressing for an equaliser when the got caught out by a long clearance by Turnpike keeper Niall Malone. Daniel Gilmartin chased down what looked like a hopeless cause and was rewarded when the ball broke nicely for him to score from the edge of the box. Inagh did not give up and had good efforts from David Davenport and Ciaran Monaghan kept out by keeper Malone. Ciaran Russell was having a fine game at the back for Turnpike and when Malone needed help he was always in the right place to keep Turnpike's lead intact. With Inagh throwing everything into attack Turnpike were always dangerous on the break and they finished off the game as contest with 5 minutes remaining when a shot from Derek Matha took a wicked deflection off substitute Gavin Fitzgibbon to finish in the bottom right corner with Sexton in the Inagh goal having no chance.
